Welch's Scholarship to Aid Students

Westfield, NY, November 8, 1999

Area students will have a chance to win two $1,000 scholarships to the State University of New York College at Fredonia as a result of a scholarship fund established by Welch's and the National Grape Cooperative through the Fredonia College Foundation.

Established in 1996, the scholarships will be awarded to the children of Welch's and National employees and the sons and daughters of the cooperative's grower-members.

Scholarship applications are now available for the Spring Semester 2000, which begins in January. Interested applicants should contact the National Grape Cooperative Office or the Welch's Human Resources Office in Westfield. Eligible students include children of Welch's employees and children of National Grape Cooperative members in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada. Applications are due December 15, 1999.

"Welch's is proud to offer these scholarships to the sons and daughters of its employees and growers," said James Callahan, director of corporate communications. "Supporting education in the communities where our growers and employees live and work has been a Welch's tradition. Providing a quality education has long been a SUNY Fredonia tradition. We're excited about providing these scholarships and helping to build upon both traditions," he said.

Last year's winners were Leslie Marino of Fredonia and Megan Salman of Jamestown.

The company also produces a variety of other fruit-based products, including 100% juices and juice cocktails in the following forms: bottled, refrigerated, single-serve, and frozen and shelf-stable concentrates.
