Research Scientist
R&D/Quality Assurance
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Our Research & Development department is seeking an exceptional individual to work in their world class facility in Billerica, MA. The Product Development Research Scientist will develop and execute action plans to deliver key project objectives in support of Strategic plans and initiatives. The scientist regularly interfaces with Marketing, Operations and Sales to achieve project objectives. To meet the objectives, benchtop, and pilot plant work is expected before traveling to commercial manufacturing plant. Some travel is expected.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and implements specific phases of product development projects, focusing on line extensions, product improvements or cost savings.
- Develops specific action plans to accomplish project goals. Includes experimental design and execution of bench top, pilot plant, and plant trials where appropriate.
- Executes action plans in a timely and professional manner.
- Demonstrates ability to develop technical and business skills which will be necessary to effectively achieve project goals and lead teams in delivering strategic goals.
- Responsible for developing technical skills specific to areas of functional responsibility:
- Applies sound scientific techniques in analysis of project goals and action plans (i.e., experimental design, statistics, etc.)
- Gains understanding of food product development, consumer test design/implementation/analysis, and fundamental underlying science/technology where appropriate.
- Broadens knowledge of applicable manufacturing processes, packages, basic science as they apply to product development or basic scientific principles, as appropriate.
- Leads project team to design/develop products or basic science at bench, pilot plant prototype as appropriate.
- Demonstrates awareness/practice of safety procedures, GMPs, food regulations, and the implications for product/science development

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum B.S Required (4+ years experience) in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or other related scientific disciplines
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
