Purple Grape Juice
What is the French Paradox? And does Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice have health benefits similar to red wine?
The French Paradox is the unexpectedly good heart health among the French despite their typically high-fat diet. Red wine consumption is a suggested reason for this paradox.
Both red wine and purple grape juice are made from dark grapes. These dark grapes contain flavonoids, which are a likely source of heart heath benefits. Both red wine research and purple grape juice research have shown antioxidant, anti-clotting, and arterial flexibility benefits. Many scientists believe that these properties are linked to heart health.
I've heard that cranberry juice is good in maintaining urinary tract health in women. Does Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice have a similar effect?
It may. In a recent laboratory test tube study, compounds found in purple grape juice were as effective as similar compounds found in cranberry juice in blocking the bacterial adhesion.
More and more Americans are drinking purple grape juice for their heart health. Now people concerned about urinary tract health may have another effective, good tasting option to consider.
Why does the American Heart Association (AHA) verbiage on Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice say "for healthy people over age two"?
The AHA has created its Food Certification Program to help consumers identify heart-healthy foods. Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice products displaying the heart-check mark are certified by the AHA and have no saturated fat or cholesterol. Through this program, The AHA recommends foods for people over two because children under two years old should not be consuming too many low fat foods. They need fat in their diet to help with proper growth and brain development. In addition, this program is geared toward healthy people because people with special dietary needs may require a different diet.
I have diabetes. I see Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice contains 40 grams of sugar per 8-ounce serving. Can I drink it?
Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice contains a naturally high amount of the natural sugars fructose and glucose. Individuals with diabetes should check with their doctor or dietitian to determine if this product is suitable for their dietary needs.
How many calories are in a glass of Welch's Purple 100% Grape Juice?
There are 170 calories in an 8-ounce serving.
White Grape Juice
I've heard that I should consider Welch's 100% White Grape Juice as my baby's first juice. Why?
Studies have shown that babies digest white grape juice more easily than other clear fruit juices. Other clear juices contain sorbitol, a natural sugar alcohol that's difficult for the body to absorb. Fructose and glucose-two natural sugars-are easier to absorb when they are evenly balanced. Apple and pear juices contain sorbitol and have more fructose than glucose. White grape juice contains no sorbitol, and it has an even balance of fructose and glucose. That means only white grape juice has the natural sugar profile that's easiest for babies to digest.
In addition, a 2001 study in the Journal of Pediatrics reported that 100% white grape juice was less likely to cause recurrence of diarrhea in young children. It was better tolerated by children recovering from diarrhea than either apple or pear juice.
What is the difference between Welch's 100% White Grape Juice and other white grape juices?
Welch's 100% White Grape Juice is 100% white grape juice. Some one hundred percent juices labeled "white grape juice" may be made with apple or pear juice, as well as white grape juice. Research showing the benefits of white grape juice was conducted using 100% white grape juice.
