Welch's Proudly Supports the Produce for Better Health Foundation and The Centers for Disease Control Launch of Fruits & Veggies-More Matters™

Maker of fruit-based products shares in the commitment to inspire and help Americans to consume more fruits and vegetables

CONCORD, Mass., March 20, 2007 – Research indicates that more than 90 percent of Americans do not eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables and yet most understand the benefits of consuming more for better health. Furthermore, purple/blue fruits and vegetables are the most underrepresented – only three percent of Americans' fruit and vegetable intake is from this color category. Eating a wide variety of colorful fruits and vegetables is the best way to ensure we get a wide variety of healthful plant nutrients. Therefore, Welch's is proud to support the Produce for Better Health Foundation and The Centers for Disease Control in their Fruits & Veggies-More Matters™ campaign, which officially launches this week.

Fruits & Veggies-More Matters™ is a national health call-to-action aimed at increasing Americans' fruit and vegetable consumption by inspiring and helping them include more fruits and vegetables into their daily diets. Doing so is not as difficult as you may think, since all forms count—from fresh and frozen, to canned, dried and 100% juice.

Welch's is an active member of the Produce for Better Health Foundation, and is committed to helping Americans eat more fruit by providing wholesome and delicious fruit-based solutions to families. In fact, Welch's 100% Grape Juice made from Concord grapes is a delicious way to incorporate more purple/blue fruit into your family's diet. Just four ounces of Welch's 100% Grape Juice made from Concord grapes is equivalent to one half cup or one serving of fruit, and contains an abundance of antioxidants and phytonutrients not found in most other fruits and vegetables.

"Eating a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables is important as part of a balanced diet," said Pam Gardner, Health & Nutrition Manager, Welch's. "Fruits and Veggies-More Matters™ is an exciting initiative that helps Americans appreciate the benefits of adding more fruits and vegetables to their diets and shows them how easy it can be when all forms, including 100% juice, are considered."

Fruits and vegetables provide an unrivaled combination of great taste, nutrition, variety and multiple product forms. Research suggests that consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables matters in maintaining a healthy weight, and may reduce the risk of many chronic diseases.
