Welch's Announces 1998 Scholarship Recipients

Jeremiah Dalbolt and Adam Smith receive SUNY Fredonia Scholarships

WESTFIELD, New York (May 1998) - Welch's and the National Grape Co-operative Association have awarded Jeremiah Dabolt of Perrysburg, N.Y., and Adam J. Smith of Fredonia, N.Y., the 1998 Welch's/National State University of New York College at Fredonia scholarships. The scholarships are awarded annually to children of Welch's/National employees and growers based upon meritorious achievement in high school. This year's recipients, both children of growers, will each receive a $1,250 scholarship to SUNY at Fredonia.

"Welch's is proud to be able to offer these scholarships to the sons and daughters of its employees and growers," said Dan Dillon, Welch's president and chief executive officer. "Supporting education in the communities where our growers and employees live has long been, and will continue to be, a Welch's tradition."

Established in 1995, the Welch's/National scholarship program uniquely offers the families of growers and employees the opportunity to a quality education. Students eligible for the scholarship include children of employees at Welch's plants in North East, Pa., and Westfield, NY., along with the Westfield general office, and the children of growers who are members of the Co-operative in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada.

Welch's, headquartered in Concord, Massachusetts, is the world's leading marketer of Concord and Niagara grape-based products, including grape juice and jelly. The company also produces a variety of other fruit-based products -- including blended fruit juices and cocktails, fruit juices in both the frozen concentrate and shelf-stable concentrate form, and an assortment of jams, jellies and preserves under both the Welch's and BAMA brand names.

The College at Fredonia, located in Chautauqua County, New York, is a comprehensive, four-year arts and sciences college which offers undergraduate degrees in more than 55 majors and several graduate degrees. Belonging to the State University of New York system, it has been cited for quality and cost-effectiveness by U.S. News and World Report and Money magazine in the annual "best college buys" guides of these periodicals.
