Welch's Lawton Michigan Plant Cited For Safety Award

LAWTON, Mich. (November 1996) - Welch's Lawton plant played key roles in recently helping Welch's win the National Safety Council's Award of Honor.

The National Safety Council designed the award as part of a program to promote the reduction and elimination of occupational injuries and illnesses. Awards are based on perfect safety records or significant reductions in incidence rates.

Welch's safety performance in 1995 (the most recent year for which statistics are available) showed significant improvements over the previous three years in three key statistics that measure workplace safety: the recordable-incident rate, the lost-time rate and days-away-from-work rate.

Extending that accomplishment, the Lawton plant achieved a 54% reduction in its recordable injury rate for the recently completed 1996 fiscal year.

At a recent plant meeting, Welch's CEO and President Dan Dillon presented a plaque to the Lawton plant and cited employees for their "outstanding safety record."

On behalf of the Lawton plant the following representatives from injury-free work groups received the plaque from Mr. Dillon: Janet Holland, Jeanie Mayes, Geraldine Sampsell, Geoffrey Marsh, Margaret Sage, Debbie Rodebaugh, Mary Ellen Vette, Tami Rimes, Frank Billman, Oralia Rivas and Mike Gleason.
